Orgaanizational Culture and Values Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Orgaanizational Culture and Values - Essay Example The values of an organization and those of the nurse hugely impact on patient care in any health care setting. Nurseââ¬â¢s values are supposed to be guided by professionalism or nursing professional ethics while those of the health care facility should be guided by organizational ethics. It is, therefore, clear that a nurse if only able to perform professionally if the organization has offered an environment to facilitate such performance (Hall, Doran and Pink, 2008). Nurseââ¬â¢s values can also be attributed to their personality which impacts on how a nurse delivers patient care. Organizational culture also tells a lot about its values and when this culture conflicts with the nurseââ¬â¢s professionalism, patient outcome is negatively affected. For example, many health care institutions currently grapple with limited resources including human resource. When the management policy dictates that a single nurse addresses many patients, this hampers on patient outcomes because of minimized attention. Organization values also affect the levels of motivation among nurses because these values foster a particular environment which can either lower of increase motivation levels (Park and Kim, 2009). Therefore, environmental context coupled with nurseââ¬â¢s behaviors bring about distinct levels of motivation. The aggregate situation resulting in the blending of nurseââ¬â¢s values and those of the organization hugely affect patient outcome either positively or negatively as explained above. According to Vandome and McVey (2012) effective communication is an essential ingredient for organizational success. Communication in an organization is either internal or external in nature. Internal communication is primarily between and among the management and the employees while external is between the organization and the outside world or external stakeholders like customers. Workplace challenges are easily overcome through effective

How conflict leads to disputes and the need for resolution Essay
How conflict leads to disputes and the need for resolution - Essay Example Several other factors also determine the most appropriate resolution method to be applied. For example, the nature of the conflict, the issues at stake, the cultural sensibilities of the people involved, the economic costs, etc are all factors to be considered. Once a general assessment of the conflict is made then steps can be taken toward reaching a solution. This can involve peaceful negotiations or mediations between the concerned parties. In case of conflict between two nations, nonviolent approaches such as diplomacy should be first considered before resorting to force. When it comes to conflict resolution in a business situation, the first choice action will be legal advocacy, which involves informing the stakeholders of the legal implications of various courses of action. In the realm of the academia, scholarly seminars and other pedagogic approaches are best suited for conflict resolution. Sometimes, a combination of various approaches is the most effective. For instance, in interpersonal conflicts, elements of personal counseling sessions alongside legal briefings is more likely to lead to amicable resolutions. In recent years, conflicts have arisen between environment protection groups and business corporations, primarily due to the tendency of the latter to externalize ââ¬Ëcosts and risksââ¬â¢. This has resulted in social activism and such international public forums such as the World Social Forum, World Economic Forum, etc are platforms for debating, contemplating and settling various disputes. Sometimes conflicts can arise between different ethnic and religious groups. Resolving such disputes would require a broad political framework. Setting the Stage for Strategic Compensation and Bases for Pay Essay
Setting the Stage for Strategic Compensation and Bases for Pay - Essay Example However, it is important that compensation structures are aligned with the strategic objectives of the business. Three of the main goals of compensation departments in organizations are to attract talented personnel from the industry and help provide a certain amount of flexibility to the needs of the department; improve morale of employees and motivate them to ensure the existence of an innovative and knowledgeable workforce; as well as maintain salary standards which are competitive in the industry. Contextual influence posing greatest and least challenge for companiesââ¬â¢ competitiveness Some of the external, as well as internal, conditions of a firm can determine the nature of pay structure which it would design or which would be appropriate for it. Most importantly, the supply and demand of labour in the market would be a serious consideration while designing its pay structure. Shortage of a particular skill in the market might imply that the organization might have to pay a higher price for those skills, and vice versa. In fact the demand and supply of labour in the market is the determinant of the existing wage rates at that region too (Prakashan, 2009, p.14). The other very important factor which would pose serious challenge before an organization is the prevailing market rates. This can be also termed as the comparable wages or the ongoing wage rates. The compensation policy fixed by an organization must necessarily confirm to the wage rates paid by other competitors in the industry. Otherwise, it might result in employees leaving the organization getting attracted towards those with higher salary packages. The cost of living also accounts for an important criterion based on which organizations develop their compensation structures and plans. It is crucial to make adjustments in pay depending on the increases or decreases in the cost of living index. When organizations fail to reset their salary structures according to the changes in the living ind ex, it can face resistance from employees and unions demanding higher wages. This could be challenging for the organizations (Prakashan, 2009, p.14). Apart from the above serious threats there are certain issues which are also crucial for determining compensation structures but which pose challenges before organizations to a lesser extent. The ability of an organization to pay or its affordability is crucial to determine its pay structure. Degree of profits, costs of production, sales revenues are some aspects which must be evaluated before designing pay structures. Psychological and sociological factors greatly determine the extent to which an employee would be willing to put in effort in his job. A personââ¬â¢s psychological perception helps him equate his wage or salary levels as a measure of the extent of success he has earned. Lastly, rapid technological developments have been the main cause of rapid development of skills of employees. The level of wages of these employees h as also been changing correspondingly. Thus, it is important that organizations keep track of changes in skill levels and wage level of

Government in america Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Government in america - Essay Example Brown posits that amendments are a serious necessity in the United States constitution (The Birthright Question 106). Brown states that, ââ¬Å"the 14th Amendment was passed by Congress on June 13, 1866 and finally ratified on July 9, 1868â⬠(The Birthright Question 106). Hammerstrom expounds more on the 14th amendment, which gives equal rights to every citizen in the United States and completely abolished slavery (1). The historical and contemporary government development in the14th amendment is important to the American people and the government mandate is to protect and upheld the rights of the American people stated in the amendment. The thought of independence means guaranteed equal rights to every citizen in a country. Stock explicates that the meaning of independence was not as was expected to the American people because the people only experienced the concept of equal rights after the 1868 14th amendment (139). The 14th amendment passed by the congress was after a long c ontroversy and heated debate. According to Brown, racism was very dominant in the United State between the white and the black people (The Birthright Question 106). The amendment reaffirms states and federal citizenship for all people irrespective of race whether born or have been naturalized in the United States. ... Brown indicates that the 14th amendment granted citizenship to any person both within United States geographical area despite parentââ¬â¢s legal status or not (A United States Analysis 421). The 14th amendment indicates that a state will not abridge the privilege and freedom of American Citizen (Our Constitution 168). Therefore, every person in America as long as the citizen is above twenty-one is allowed to vote. According to Brown, the Constitution of the United States has no clause that the term ââ¬Ëslaveryââ¬â¢ is directly cited. Article 1, Section 2 of the constitution apportioned tax and enumeration of representatives of Congress according to whole number of free persons (The Birthright Question 106). Therefore, slavery included the three-fifth of total number of people counted. The Congress bounded such people to slavery for a period of one thousands and ninety nine years. The constitution gave primary rights to government to the states rather than federal government (The Birthright Question 107). Therefore, the southern states declared their withdrawal from the union. These happened when Abraham Lincoln voiced his support for the states right of withdrawal. In 1854, establishment of the Republic Party was to stop slavery in America and this contributed to Abraham Lincoln elected as the president of America. After the election of Abraham Lincoln, the southern state seceded from the union leading to the Republican Party and the northern states having absolute control of the federal government (The Birthright Question 108). In 1862, the congress passed laws to confiscate all slaves from the southern states therefore using the freed slaves as soldiers to fight against the southern state. The Civil war between the states
